PROFANATICA – THE ENEMY OF VIRTUE (DVD)
Their material is legendary, their antics are practically mythical, and their attitude is uncompromising. Now you get to see archival footage of these sick masterminds in all of its raw glory, and many hails to Deathgasm for taking the time and effort to put this out and giving us all a reason to toss those VHS tapes. Granted, the footage is as garbled, staticy, and faded as ye olde tapes, but as least they won’t be degrading any further (the beginning of both discs clearly states that the footage is only as good as its source, so keep your expectations not so high)! Compiling a massive amount of New England and Tri-State shows over a 10 year period from the early 90s to the early millennium and presented with just the right amount of information yet still presented with a very minimalist feel, you’d better jump on this before they’re all gone and it’s one of those scenarios where you kick yourself in the ass forever! If you’ve never seen this stuff before and have only heard about it, you have no idea what you’re missing. There’s an essence here long gone in the “scene”, since in fact it has since become a scene too crowded and overexposed for its own good. Here you can see what it was all like before Hot Topic, Guitar Hero, and Cartoon Network injected their taint upon the art and made it hip to hold a camera in front of yourself and make “the horns” while sticking your tongue out and post the picture on MySpace. You also get to here these guys give one hell of an amusing rant against the establishment of religion in an interview along with some other of their not-so-humble opinions as they interject growlspeak every now and then. This is one of those soon-to-be highly sought after and very collectible items that you simply cannot afford to miss. No if you’ll excuse me, I must go vomit on God’s child. (FA)
