TRIO OF REVIEWS

EXTERMINANCE – VOMITING THE TRINITY
Woah, did I just go back in time? What the heck, all of a sudden I’m sitting in homeroom listening to death metal on a cassette Walkman™! The year is 1994, and mosheriffic death metal is the weirdo kids like myself love blasting from our headphones as we walk down the halls and sport an austere look on our visages, making everyone part the seas of uselessness that they are! 16 tracks of roughly produced, faded and lovely sounding death metal hell! Nine are unreleased, and seven are lifted from “The Seven Deadly Sins” album from back in the day. And all are a great pleasure to play on full blast! (FA)

GRIMBANE – LET THE EMPIRES FALL
While Grimbane may in fact be shrouded in obscurity so far, its members have a deep and rich history in the realm of the underground. Featuring past members of Blasphemy, Godless North, and Procreation, Grimbane has plenty of lofty merits under their belts, and continue this legacy with a new style of blasphemous blackness set out to trample the flock of believers and dethrone the almighty! Several anti-religious spoken word rhetoric from various sources precede many of the songs, and they each definitely got me thinking with the messages they were delivering (not that I needed much convincing). It’s a thunderous cyclone of black metal murder, and it’s over all too soon. With killer artwork by the legendary Petagno and a bleak promise of tomorrow, here’s hoping these bellringers of hell succeed in their quest for utter domination! (FA)

STORMING DARKNESS – SIN=THESIS
Here’s a helping of minimalist black metal from the frozen landscapes of Russia. It very much invokes rumblings of early Darkthrone (but not “Soulside Journey” early, of course) and Gorgoroth and sounds like what many a jaded black metal devotee worships up and down. No photos, a very basic layout, and a totally uncompromising sound are what Storming Darkness serves the masses. Only the foolish wouldn’t find joy out of the misery being preached here. (FA)
